"I don't do patrols, I don't go hunting, I just stick close to you. You live your life. I'll keep you safe," Tamani said, sweeping a lock of hair from her face. "Or die trying."
Laurel hasn't seen Tamani since she begged him to let her go last year. Though her heart still aches, Laurel is confident that David was the right choice.
But just as life is returning to normal, Laurel discovers that a hidden enemy lies in wait. Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. And for the first time, Laurel cannot be sure that her side will prevail.
This is the third installment of Aprilynne Pike's Wings Series.
On the first day of senior year Laurel is calm as can be just hanging out with her friends in the hall. That is until she sees Tam walk through the hall with exchange students. Once glance from him is all she needs to have her heart racing and confusion set in. She has not seen Tam since she told him in the forest to let her go. Tam is on a mission though to protect Laurel at all costs, but what if his side mission is to win over her heart? Will Laurel choose to remain with David, who has been the love of her life for two years, or will she go with Tam, the guy who will always better understand her faerie nature?
Honestly, I do not want to give too much away because I don’t want to ruin the storyline for you. This adventure takes us back to Cresent City where Laurel lives her life pretending to be a human. Tam coming into the picture is funny to see because how on earth is a faerie suppose to fit easily into the human world when he has never lived in it before. Of course David is not so keen on Tam being around more and this leads to tension, jealousy, and battles for Laurel’s heart. While the battle for our leading lady’s heart is going on there is some major things happening as far as trolls and wild faeries are concerned. Is is possible that there is a faerie on the loose that Avalon doesn’t know about?
Overall this was yet another great addition to the Wings Series. There were a lot of story pieces in this book that we as readers need to learn before we can get to the last book in the series. So most of the plot is just setting us up for the fourth book. It is like trying to put together all of the puzzle pieces and right when you get to the end result you are left on a cliffhanger. I must admit Aprilynne already has me impatiently waiting for the fourth book even though Illusions hasn’t hit shelves for the public yet. I am a fan of this series and I really hope that others will give it a shot. Trust me the characters and the deep romance between Laurel, David, and Tam will leave you wanting more every time. I would give this story 4.5, it was great but I didn’t love it as much as I did with Spells.
