Flashback Friday

So I’m not aware if anyone else does this theme on their blog, if you know of someone who does I will give them credit for the theme. This is just an idea I had because I have so many books on my shelves that I read a year to about five years ago and I thought this would be a nice way of showing off some older books to bring back some old memories for myself and of course all of you readers out there. It can also help bring back to life some older books that might get ignored in all the piles of new releases we all have to read.

This week’s Flashback:

Title: Kissed by an Angel

Author: Elizabeth Chandler
Publisher: Simon and Schuster

Publication Date: September 2002
Classification: YA Book
Summary from Barnes and Noble:
A love beyond life…a danger beyond doubt.
In a romantic and suspenseful collection of the New York Times bestselling trilogy, love’s unbreakable bonds are put to the test.
When her boyfriend, Tristan, died, Ivy thought she’d lost everything, even her faith in angels. But now she’s discovered that he’s her guardian angel — his presence so strong that she can feel the touch of his hand, the beat of his heart. Ivy needs Tristan now more than ever because he knows she’s in terrible danger. Only Ivy’s guardian angel can save her now that his killer is after her.
But if Tristan rescues Ivy, his mission on earth will be finished, and he must leave her behind forever. Will saving Ivy mean losing her just when he’s finally reached her again?

My Thoughts:
First off let me just say that I love this book it is always going to be 5 stars of excellence in my mind. Trust me if you could see my old copy (yes I know they reprinted it with the new black cover with the rose but I’m not a fan of that cover) you would know this is a favorite of mine. My copy is worn and the spine is well used with the pages turning yellow from finger oils and age, it has that old book smell when you open it up as well.

I believe this story has something for everyone, it has the romance, the tear-jerker, the suspense and the mystery all rolled into one. If you can not find something in this book that is for you then I have no clue what you would enjoy reading. This story grabs you into the instant connection and romance between sweet Tristan and Ivy and it will pull on your heartstrings when he is taken from her. It is only through her belief that she is able to find Tristan as her guardian angel and love again.

I recently found out that there is FINALLY going to be a sequel to this book and I about ran around my office at work screaming in delight. I have always appreciated the way this book ended but felt it was very open ended where another book can further Ivy, Tristan and Will’s stories. If you didn’t read this book 5ish years ago when I did or even about two years ago when it re-released you need to run to the bookstore to get it asap.

Here is the sequel which releases in March 2011:

Here is what I feel would be a “modern” book that has the same feel to it with the modern twist of more edgy characters. Patch is certainly a lot different from Tristan but I like how this series blends the romance, mystery and suspense in ways that remind me slightly of Kissed by an Angel.
