Scaling Mt. Read Me is a feature where we will be pulling a few books that have ended up in the never ending TBR and spotlighting them here. Some of us can’t admit to having a to be read “pile” as it has exploded into it’s own mountain range, hence the name Mt. Read Me.

Stephanie’s Choices:
One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, No. 1)One For the Money by Janet Evanovich
ONE FOR THE MONEY
Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Stephanie needs cash – fast – but times are tough, and soon she’s forced to turn to the last resort to the truly desperate: family…
ONE FALSE MOVE
Stephanie lands a gig at her sleazy cousin Vinnie’s bail bonding company. She’s got no experience. But that doesn’t matter. Neither does the fact that the bail jumper in question is local vice cop Joe Morelli. From the time he first looked up her dress to the time he first got into her pants, to the time Steph hit him with her father’s Buick, M-o-r-e-l-l-i has spelled t-r-o-u-b-l-e. And now the hot guy is in hot water – wanted for murder…
ONE FOR THE MONEY
Abject poverty is a great motivator for learning new skills, but being trained in the school of hard knocks by people like psycho prizefighter Benito Ramirez isn’t. Still, if Stephanie can nab Morelli in a week, she’ll make a cool ten grand. All she has to do is become an expert bounty hunter overnight – and keep herself from getting killed before she gets her man…

There's Something About Christmas

There’s Something About Christmas by Debbie Macomber

Emma Collins has always believed that the world is divided into two kins of people: those who love fruitcake and those who don’t. She’s firmly in the second category, so it’s ironic that her first major assignment for the Puyallup, Washington Examiner is a series of articles about…fruitcakes. At least it’s a step up from writing obituaries.

Her task is to interview the finalists in a fruitcake recipe contest, and that means traveling around the state. Actually…flying around the state. Local pilot Oliver Hamilton, who’s starting an airfreight business, has agreed to take her wherever she needs to go, in exchange for free advertising. Unfortunately Emma hates small planes – almost as much as she hates fruitcake.

But in the weeks leading up to Christmas, Emma falls for Oliver (who’s not quite the Scrooge he sometimes seems) and his mutt, Oscar (who’s allergic to her perfume, which makes him sneeze repeatedly). And she meets three wise women who know a lot about fruitcake – and even more about life.

It all reminds her that there’s something about Christmas. Something special…

There, she awakens a force more powerful and enticing than she could ever imagine. For the man is actually Theronai warrior Drake, whose own pain is driven away by Helen’s presence.

Desperate and determined, Maggie Stanley grabs her small baby and runs into the snowy Idaho night. In her loneliest, blackest hour, she unexpectedly finds a warmth and comfort she has never known in the tender compassion of a handsome, down-and-out stranger. In Rafe Kendrick, Maggie recognizes a soul wounded like her own—though she knows she must never trust any man ever again.

Rafe is more than he seems—an enigmatic man of secrets who could give Maggie the moon, had he not vowed to spend his life alone. But sometimes love’s flames can transform a cold world into paradise—and a man who’s lost nearly everything, a woman who’s forgotten how to dream, and the helpless child who needs them both can become that most wondrous creation: a family.
