February Wrap Up

My main reading goal for 2018 is to make it a habit to try to read 30 minutes/30 pages every day.
I initially wanted to do it by time but that is harder for me to track since I read in various places throughout the day. I decided that keeping track of pages was an easier way to do this goal.

The Books:

~ I started off the month by finishing up Alanna. I really remember loving this series opener when I read it back in high school. I still feel that Tamora Pierce has a great series and storyline but I wasn’t completely taken with this first book while reading it. I also wasn’t as swept up when I continued on with In the Hands of the Goddess and A Woman Who Rides Like a Man. I still like the series but I feel that the stories are a little short and read more like middle grade even though the main character is 11-20+ in the series.

~ I dived right into The Hate U Give and I really ended up enjoying this one quite a lot. I really loved the pace and setting of the story and the message is one not to be missed. I see why everyone is raving about this one. I did have some minor issues with it but overall I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what the author publishes next.

~ I needed to read something adult after all the YA books so I decided that it was time to finally dive into In Bed with a Highlander! I was really blown away by this book. I have never read a historical by Banks so I didn’t know what to expect. I do believe that I love her historical books more than her contemporary novels.

~ After In Bed with a Highlander I finished up my series read of the Night Prince novels by reading Into the Fire. I liked this book but I think it was mostly a set up for Ian’s series. I do love me some Ian though so I’m intrigued.

~ Having read a few steamy novels I turned to Poison Study, which I have had on my shelf for a long time. I dived right in expecting an amazing fantasy novel but I was pretty let down by this one. The story really struggled to make a cohesive plot and the cast of characters felt a bit lacking.

~ Since I loved Wonder Woman last year I thought that Batman Nightwalker would be just the thing to read to get my spirits up. Well Batman was pretty short and didn’t really add a lot to Bruce’s mysterious story in my mind so it was a bit of a let down once again.

~ After that I was missing Banks Highlander series so I quickly devoured Seduction of a Highland Lass, which was my fav of the series, and Never Love a Highlander. I so badly want to read more historical by her but I’m pacing myself so I don’t read through them all so fast.

~ I rounded out the month by reading Magic Study and finding that I liked it a whole lot more than Poison Study. I’m really excited to see how it all wraps up and maybe even continue on to the other series now.

~ One book I forgot to mention because I want it removed from my mind so I didn’t even include it in my book graphic was Cruel Prince. I read this I believe near the start of the month and it was one book where I did not even have to question whether or not I should finish it. I found the characters to all be pretty boring or overly cruel. Plus it felt like Black was just using certain plot elements such as physical abuse to make you feel sorry for the worst person in the novel. Abuse felt like it was just casually thrown into this one to show diversity and something to grab the reader’s attention. This one was not for me.

I started The Cruel Prince in February, but it hasn’t really drawn me in, so I honestly haven’t really picked it back up. I guess I’ll see if I want to continue it, but it’s not high on the list. Looks like you had a really successful 30/30 this month! Hope March goes well for you too 🙂
