The Hidden Legacy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews continues as Nevada and Rogan navigate a world where magic is the norm…and their relationship burns hot
Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.
Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …
After loving the first book in the series I couldn’t wait to dive into this one!
In this book I feel we expand on what Nevada really wants from her life. We know she has power and we know she isn’t afraid to stand up for herself. She won’t be pushed around by anyone and we know she can handle herself. I like how she wanted to stay away from Rogan and tried to resist their attraction, a least in the beginning.
Mad Rogan also stepped it up in this book. He was willing to be more bold and forthcoming than he was in the first book. He knew he wanted Nevada and he went to great lengths to help keep her safe as well as help her learn more about herself and her powers. I liked that he was there to help Nevada grow and find courage in her darker magic abilities. It was refreshing to see him push Nevada a little so she could understand just what her limits were.
I feel that in this book I loved the secondary characters even more. I really think that Nevada’s family had more time in this book to shine and I love her Mom and Grandma for how far they are willing to go to protect family and friends. These older ladies and Nevada’s younger sisters really have a power house combination and I love how it all had time to grow into something special.
I do have to say that while I do love Rogan and Nevada I do feel there was a part in the middle of the book where the characters got on my nerves because Rogan and Nevada can both be really stubborn and Nevada was resisting their attraction a little too strongly during certain parts. Everyone raved about Rogan and what he was helping them to achieve and yet Nevada wanted to prove something to herself so she fought against him for a little too long.
Overall, I don’t want to say too much but you should know that the tension in this novel is even more than the first. The action takes a darker turn than the first by allowing us to really see what skills Rogan and Nevada have. I loved seeing just how far they could go and what they would do to stay with each other. I felt that magically Nevada grew by leaps and bounds and I can’t wait to see if she really comes into her own in the third book.
