Summary from Goodreads:
Jason Michaels knows second chances are very much a part of “happy ever after.” He’s seen it firsthand, more than once. So when will it be his turn? He has a great group of friends and family to share his life with, but he knows there is one thing still missing. Love isn’t something he’s been avoiding, he just hasn’t found it yet… or has he?
Tori Peterson has made mistakes in her life, but they all pale in comparison to her marriage. Luckily, she’s a woman who quickly learned from her mistakes. Doing everything in her power to escape the man who promised to cherish her, she builds herself a life she can be proud of. Never again will she be fooled into being with a man who she might love. She knows she has too much to lose.
Her hope? That she will recognize real love when she finds it. Her fear? That her past will catch her before she has a chance to find the love she deserves, the love that is required … So what happens when her hopes and fears catch up to her at the same time?
I would have to say that this book is not too dark or mysterious but definitely not light hearted either! In fact the angst in the story is almost right away and then not too much till the climax. It’s funny, tragic, and unexpected at times therefore keeping you on your toes!
Jason is “the boy next door” in every way imaginable! He can keep you laughing and swooning over him for hours! And he loves kids to boot! What more could a girl want! Well, included in this package is one hot hunk-a-man and a gentleman!
Tori is all kinds of messed up, but on the mend for sure! She’s seen loss, turmoil, and violence and seems to be pushing through it fine. She’s an awesome Mother, a wonderful friend, and more importantly, she’s a great girlfriend!
Great supporting character cast in Jason’s entire entourage of family and friends. It’s always nice to have that base in a story so that you can add things in to make you laugh out loud. One character that comes to mind is that crazy Tessa. I was wiping tears away after reading her dialogue. The build-up to the climax was good. The dialogue flows very nicely and the pacing is great. It’s 365 (Kindle version) pages long and for this reader it was just right to fill a few cozy nights huddled up by the fire!
