Summary from Goodreads:

Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

My Thoughts:

I really liked the first book in this series because I feel it was a great blend of teenage emotions as well as those sad and haunting emotions you can have in life when something is not going right in your life. Basically I really enjoyed the first book and the blend of paranormal while still having such strong characters and emotions that I knew I needed to get the second book as soon as possible.

Everbound continues the story where we left off in the first book. Jack was taken to the tunnels in exchange for Nikki and what girl can’t help but swoon a little at his bravery. I will just put this out there right now, I do like Jack but he is hardly ever around in either book in the series so I have to say I have a huge soft spot for Cole. Cole is really the character that is interesting to watch in this book because he has some surprises up his sleeve. He is caring and he does want Nikki as his own since he did spend 100 years wrapped up with her. He wants her love and attention and I really can’t help but feel for this guy since all Nikki wants is to find a way to the Everneath in order to get Jack back. Speaking of Nikki I think she has grown more in this book than the previous one. In the first book she was younger and didn’t know what she wanted out of life and her relationships and now she has lived through a lot and has to deal with Cole and the fact that Jack is gone. It really brought out a more mature side to her and I loved seeing her grow up and realize what she wants and what she is willing to fight for.

“To get someone to follow them, a Siren would most likely appear as that person’s deepest desire. The thing they wanted most. Cole’s had become me, only it wasn’t me as the queen, which I assumed would’ve been what Cole wanted most. It wasn’t even me as an Everliving.
It was me, simply as me.”

The storyline in sequels are always interesting because you tend to get a lot of filler books as a reader. I do have to say this plot is a little slower to start because there is a lot of stuff about the Everneath that needs to be explained and the group goes on a big quest. I did enjoy the quest storyline because it allowed me to learn more about Cole’s world and how it all works but I will once again say it made the story slightly slower. One element I really did love though was the fact that while Nikki was in the Everneath should would need to remind herself of her connection with Jack and she did that through her memories. So the reader gets flashbacks about her relationship with Jack and how they came to be a couple well before the start of the first book. I felt this was necessary to the plot because in the first book we just know that she left Jack and we don’t really get to see a lot of her relationship with Jack from before her downfall in the Everneath so I loved going back to see why she would love Jack so much.

Overall, I have to say this was a great addition to the series. It added to the storyline and to the growth of all of the characters. I have to say the ending was shocking and now I can’t wait to see where this is going to go. Cole is certainly a man with a plan and I  can’t wait to see his reactions to what Nikki has planned.

“Cole. Know this now. I will never forget what you’ve done for me. Never. Do you hear me?
He nodded, but I could see he was crumbling, as if finding Jack would put an end to everything he wanted. Because it would. I placed my hands on either side of his face and brought his lips to mine in a light kiss.”

Really happy to hear this a good sequel! I enjoyed the first one so now even more excited to read this. It’s a shame Jack isn’t around much!I didn’t love Cole in book one but I have a feeling he’ll grow on me. Great review, thanks!
