And where her abusive parents lie in wait.
But when an unorthodox arrangement is proposed, Jennifer decides to take it. She agrees to be the “girlfriend” of Alexander Wenn, the reluctant, billionaire CEO of Wenn Enterprises, who is so devastatingly good looking, he needs a beautiful woman like Jennifer on his arm to “keep the wolves at bay.”
In this case, the wolves are other women, all of whom vie for his attention so aggressively, they keep him from focusing on business at the exclusiveevents he must attend. It’s there that deals are cut. What they want is his money and his power. Damaged by a past event, the only thing Alex wants to do is focus on work. And to forget the past.
But can Jennifer deny their white-hot chemistry? As she’s swept into thisglittering otherworld of society and big business, she finds herself struggling to keep from falling for Alex, an almost impossible feat shenevertheless must meet.
Armed with her MBA, Jennifer Kent knows about business. But what she doesn’t know is what could destroy her–the business of protecting her own heart. And maybe her own life.
I was on an Amazon freebie readathon sometime back and that cover completely lured me in! So I grabbed and immediately started this one.
The plot is interesting even though it might not be that unique. I especially loved the characters. Jennifer is not just gorgeous (going by the description) and funny but she’s brainy too. I love witty, intellectual female characters! And her friend cum roommate is a hoot. There are so many LOL moments in there. This book is like chick lit meets romance and I love that! And ooh, I didn’t even get to Alex. Yum! What a guy. I wish romance could be like this in real life. Because it was just intense! And there was no nudity involved. Can you believe that?
Though this book has been compared to Fifty Shades of Grey, I would like to differ. Alright, the billionaire and businesswoman bit may be the same but no, it doesn’t even get there in the first book. And for a change (unlike Fifty shades), it has a story and gives it time to build on it. So I am all for this one even though I gave up on Fifty after trying real hard for 140 pages.
I can’t believe this book didn’t get to the adult part with a cover and a story like that! It left me wanting for more. And that’s precisely why I am heading straight to volume 2.
