Announcing the Harry Potter Read Along

I was a little late coming into Harry Potter fandom. My own HP adventure began with the fifth book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 2003. I have to say like many before me I fell for the orphaned boy who could never seem to catch a break. As many Harry Potter fans can attest, there’s something (forgive my pun) magical about the Harry Potter series and it’s not just Hogwarts. 🙂 J.K. Rowling did what every author aspires to do: she changed the game. Suddenly children were setting aside video games and looking away from the TV to open a book. Harry, Ron and Hermione and all of the characters in the series became more like friends and loved ones. I wept when they wept and triumphed when they triumphed. There is no doubt in my mind that this series will be one that I will cherish all the days of my life.

Earlier this year Alexa from Pages of Forbidden Love mentioned that she would probably be re-reading the Harry Potter series. I realized that it had been 5 years since my last delve into the Hogwarts world. I find that there is nothing better than sharing your passion with other people so I decided to host an 8 month read along. That’s right folks: 8 months. I understand that’s a really long time but this averages out to a little more than 100 pages a week. It’s about what I can promise to do each week and I know that if I still want the opportunity to read other books then it’s not a far jump to conclude that others will as well.

How It Will Work:

I will post the questions a week in advance from when your answers should go live. This way everyone will have a week to read the section and think about their answers. I’ll be posting on Mondays so that means the first round of questions will be available on March 25 so answers can go live on April 1st. Each week will have a Mister Linky so you can share your answers and we can all discuss. Easy enough right? 😉 I love your enthusiasm!

I shall write up my post about this tomorrow as I’m dead tired right now. I’m so excited you are doing this though because I told myself at the beginning of the year I wanted to read more books off my shelves and re=read the Harry Potter series and it is almost already April and I think I’ve only read 1-3 books off my shelves and I haven’t even started HP yet!

So excited to dive back into this world though. I was watching one of the movies back in Nov and that was why I decided in 2013 to read them all again because the books are just so magical that I could never give them up. 🙂

I can’t blame you for that! I’m too tired to post much more. I’m hoping that everyone who participates has a great time. I mean I know it’s Harry Potter so it’s pretty much a given but ya know!

I watched HP 7 Part 1 last night and will get HP 7 Part 2 in the mail on Wednesday.

I’m so excited about this. I wanted to reread this series for awhile now, but didn’t have anyone to do it with. For some reason I don’t own book two so I need to go buy that. And I’ll write up my participation post now. So excited!

Reading things in groups is VERY exciting! I can’t wait to get started and discuss things with other bloggers. 🙂 So happy you joined us!

I started reading them not too long after you did. I fixed the code. I didn’t have it completed. 🙁 It should work now! Thank you so much for joining! I’m debating back and forth over which extended edition to get. If I should buy them individually or just save up the money and buy the big $350 one. Le sigh. Decisions. 🙂

  4. Isa

It’s been a while since I read this series and I started it late as well. The first book I read was Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. I’ve never participated in a read along so I’m really looking forward to it. 🙂

I joined the group on Goodreads and am awaiting approval.

As background, I read all 7 books in order for the first time starting December 14, 2012 and finishing January 12, 2013. Since then, have become a total Potterhead.

I would love to re-read them at a slower pace with questions and commentary from a group. This is perfect!

    • Stephanie

Goodness girlfriend! You inhaled them. 🙂 I started reading them right after the publication of book #5. I had to wait for the last two. It was so much fun. I hope that we have a lot of fun with this. HP is such a great story.

    • Stephanie

No problem! Another blogger friend had mentioned doing a re-read of them this year and I realized that I had not read the last one a second time yet. It was kinda emotionally devastating so I think I’ve needed the time to heal. Lol. I can’t WAIT to get back into the series. 🙂 So glad you are joining us!!

Week 10! I can’t believe we’re already in week 10. Just finished reading chapter 8 of GoF. This one is my favorite of the whole series. I love learning about the wizarding world, especially the international aspects of it. Loved the Quidditch World Cup and reading all about the logistics of keeping the muggles in the dark.

    Looking forward to the questions!

  7. Shannon

Hey Stephanie! Are we still doing the read-along questions? I finished OotP in early September and went right into HBP and finished that about a week or so later. Waiting to start DH until the questions are posted again.

    No pressure. Just curious. 🙂
