Love Letters by Geraldine Solon
Love Letters by Geraldine Solon is a fantastic read. Superbly written and emotionally moving, this novel is a great contemporary romance about discovering true love.
Chloe is on top of the world. Her wedding to the man of her dreams is months away and she is ready to begin the next stage of her life. So of course it’s the perfect timing for Josh, her first love, to walk back into her life. Josh makes her second guess everything about her fiancé and her life. Chloe’s determined to find out if she’s just getting cold feet or if Josh really is the man she wants to be with. As fate would have it Chloe finds old letters in the attic from her mother’s lover, a man she met before she married Chloe’s father. Shocked to be reading about her mother’s secret love life, Chloe realizes her mother’s fate back them is somewhat similar to her own now. Did her mother make the right choice? And what will Chloe do?
Readers must be prepared for an interesting love triangle. Richard, Chloe’s finance, had me confused throughout. I was completely prepared to love Josh and wish for him to whisk Chloe away to their happily ever after, but was not prepared for the dilemma Richard would cause. I struggled, along with Chloe, for the best solution to her problems. This was wonderful because it made the conclusion that much more satisfying. I’ll be honest…I’m not a big fan of love triangles, but I loved this one. It had me cringing in despair in one chapter and smiling in the next. It was an emotional roller coaster that was well worth the ride.
Solon does a wonderful job of not making the heroine look foolish because she’s being indecisive. She fully explains what Chloe is going through and her thoughts behind it. It’s realistic and becomes a truly plausible dilemma. This uncertain heroine is in an interesting situation and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her happily ever after. While this book could have easily fell flat if it became obvious to the reader which direction Chloe should take, it didn’t turn out that way. Solon pens a story which is unpredictable, sweet and charmingly romantic.
Another high point of the novel was the parallel story of Chloe’s mother, who basically went through the same situation years ago. Chloe discovers this shocking story via the letters these young lovers wrote to one another. It increased the drama of Chloe’s situation because you saw the story from all sides. Did Chloe’s mother make a mistake? Did she make the right choice? Is Chloe repeating her mother’s situation? Although Chloe’s mother was a little rough around the edges at first, by the end you truly appreciate her journey through life and understand the reasoning behind her actions.
Love Letter’s is a great contemporary romance novel. Fans of stunning love stories about first loves and second chances will not want to miss this novel. This story contains a well developed and strong romance story with great characters. This is the first novel by Geraldine Solon that I’ve read and I enjoyed it so much it certainly will not be my last.
